The foreign buyer is able to live six months a year on Mauritian territory without any special permits. However, if the price of acquisition exceeds the value of 375,000 USD (approximately 314,000 Euros) the buyer is granted a permanent residence permit.

A residence permit enables foreigners to live in Mauritius for more than six months. The residence permit is valid as long as the resident is the owner of the residence.

The Mauritian authorities have introduced several schemes to enable foreign nationals to retire in Mauritius. The Retirement Permit is granted to any person aged 50 years or above who agrees to make a monthly transfer of USD 1,500 or a total of USD 18,000 annually, in Mauritian bank account.
